Prisoners

Palestine is a Gaol by Mohammed, 14

Writing around the map of Palestine is translated as follows:

Top right ‘Palestine is a prison’
Top left ‘There is one God’
Middle-left (below the Israeli plane) ‘Jerusalem is surrounded’
Middle-right above the two faces ‘America and Israel’
Bottom left under the two faces of the people ‘Afghanistan and Iraq’
Bottom right under the Israeli flag ‘Israel is the terrorist’

Hussan and Mayar, Nablus Summer 2003

Hussan was arrested when he was a teenager by the IOF who claimed he had been involved in terrorist activities. He was held for many months then released without any charges being laid against him, he missed much school time.

During his time in the Israeli jail he was tortured many times and the pain didn’t finish when he was released, an IOF officer came to his house the day of his final exam and held him until 15 minutes before the end of the exam making him miss it.

He re-sat the exams and passed and is now employed by an international company. Because of the many closures and curfews he is only able to remain employed as a result of the internet which he uses to conduct his daily business.

I hope in the future I’ll be a Doctor and I really hope Palestine will be free and all the prisoners are out of jail.

My Uncle Shardie

In the summer of 2003 Jayyous was invaded and placed under curfew, homes were ransacked and 21 year old Shardie was one of 5 university students taken by the Israeli military who claimed they were “key members of the Palestinian resistance”.
